Educational Pathways International (EPI), a United States based charity organization has awarded 14 full scholarships to gifted students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with great financial need. The scholarship scheme which became operational in KNUST since 2009 works through the Students Financial Services (SFS) to cater for living expenses, accommodation, school fees among other things.
According to Sara and Leonard Lafrance, President and Vice President of the EPI, the scholarship is to ensure that brilliant students who have demonstrated a deep commitment to education and the strength of character to overcome tremendous odds and gained admissions into universities are awarded. This they believe will go a long way to transition them into the workforce and global leaders that the world needs.
In an earlier meeting, Reverend Professor Charles Ansah, Pro Vice-Chancellor, thanked the EPI team for coming to the aid of beneficiaries. He stated that though most students manage to complete their courses, there exist a number who have challenges and in dire need of assistance. The scholarship therefore is welcomed and as it would help more needy students to access university education in comfort.
Ms. Eunice Adjoa Eghan, Programme Coordinator, noted that the EPI programme is a holistic and a comprehensive scholarship that provides an array of services including counseling, guidance, and support in areas of academic performance, career development, language skills and leadership. Ms. Eghan further said EPI ensures that all students have summer internships and after graduation gain meaningful employment.
